Safe Ground is a charity using drama to educate prisoners and young people at risk in the community, and so reduce the risk of reoffending and build stronger communities. Safe Ground run an array of different programmes aimed at improving rehabilitation after prison, including Father’s Inside, a five-week parenting programme for men in prison. Fathers Inside is an intensive group-work programme. The programme focuses on parental responsibilities and children’s education, development and wellbeing.
Give a Book has supported Father’s Inside by giving books, and book bags, for the young fathers to share with their children and to keep. Read our latest blog marking 5 years of working with Safe Ground here.
“It was wonderful to see the concentration on the children’s faces as they listened. If it has encouraged one father to read to their child I would be more than happy.” – Sallyann Ploughman, HMYP Brinsford
“It makes you think about taking more responsibility, and thinking before you act. I’d heard it all before, but relating it to the future made it easier to take seriously. There was a fight at school, and usually I’d have got involved, but I didn’t this time.” –Man Up Participant, Evelyn Grace Academy 2014
