What cookies are
Cookies are small files that a website stores on your device. Some are needed to make the site work at all. Others tell us how the site is being used, or let content from other services appear on our pages.
How we handle them
Essential cookies are set automatically, because the site cannot function without them. That includes remembering the choice you make about cookies.
Everything else should only be set if you agree. When you first visit, a banner asks what you are happy with. You can accept, deny, or choose category by category. Denying does not stop the site working. You can change your mind at any time by reopening the cookie banner and choosing again.
Two things do not yet wait for your answer. We have said so below rather than leaving them out.

Spam protection
Our contact and sign-up forms use Google reCAPTCHA to stop automated abuse. It is necessary for those forms to work safely, so it is set without asking.

Being honest about this one. At present this cookie is set when the page loads, before you have answered the banner. It should wait for your agreement, and we are working with Beacon to change that. We have told you rather than quietly leaving it out.
Embedded video
Some of our pages include video hosted by Vimeo. Our player runs in Vimeo’s Do Not Track mode, which means Vimeo undertakes not to track you or build a profile from your viewing. Vimeo does still receive your IP address in order to send you the video, and may set the following.
Being honest about this one too. The player currently loads with the page rather than waiting for your agreement. We are changing it so the video only loads once you choose to play it.

Making a donation
Our donation form is provided by Beacon, with payments handled by Stripe and bot protection by hCaptcha. These are needed to take your donation securely and are not used to track you.
We checked what each of them actually stores on your device when the form is used. Beacon’s form and Stripe store nothing. hCaptcha stores one cookie:

Stripe does receive information about your visit in order to take the payment and check for fraud, which they describe in their own privacy policy. They do not store anything on your device to do it.
Changing your mind
Reopen the cookie banner at any time and choose again. You can also delete cookies through your browser settings, though that will also remove your saved preferences, so the banner will ask you again.
