Books in Prison again
More on the value of books in prison from Sarah Crompton. She concludes her trenchant column with the suggestion that Justice Secretary Christopher Grayling should “put his mind to a scheme for authors and publishers to donate towards an effective prison education programme.” And that “A society that loses sight of a book’s value is one that has also lost its own humanity.” To quote James Joyce, “Yes.”
Give a Book has the simple core belief that to give a book–to pass on a good read–is a transaction of worth. Give a Book gives books where they will be of particular benefit eg to Prison Reading Groups, Magic Breakfast, 6 Book Challengers in Prisons as well as schools, refuges and assorted literacy projects— anywhere that the gift of a book will make a difference.
