Help us change lives
We know that a book is more than just a story – it’s a gateway to imagination, empathy and hope. Every book we place with someone who needs it is an opportunity: to learn, to reflect, to find solace and to connect.
We work in prisons, schools and with disadvantaged children across the UK, bringing reading and its life-transforming power to people in some of the most challenging circumstances.
But we can’t do it alone. Whether you run, read, bake, or even while you’re shopping, there’s a way for everyone to make a difference.
Ways to fundraise
Turn your miles into meaning! Join a race through Run for Charity, the UK’s number one destination for charity running. You can:
- Choose from hundreds of runs, from 5K to marathons, and even fun runs
- Register and fundraise with friends, colleagues or on your own
- Use your challenge to raise sponsorship for Give a Book

Run for Charity makes it easy to find an event that suits you. Every step you take helps us deliver more books to where they are needed most.
Search for your event at runforcharity.com and select “Give a Book” as your charity.
Raise money through your book club
Share your love of books. If you belong to a book club, you can:
- Invite members to donate a small sum at your next meeting
- Host book club meetups with a fundraising raffle
- Instead of buying new books, organise a book swap evening, where people make a donation to participate.
Shop and support us
- Sign up with easyfundraising and choose Give a Book. Major retailers will donate to us at no extra cost when you shop online. Ask your friends and family to join too; it’s an effortless way to help.
- You can buy bundles of books that go directly to our projects through our friends at Daunts Books. You can purchase in-store or online.
- Buy from our affiliate list on Bookshop.org. A fascinating selection of reads, chosen by inspiring individuals, including Dame Penelope Wilton, Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, A.L. Kennedy and Cathy Rentzenbrink.
Creative and community activities
Looking for more ideas? Get creative and have fun while supporting us:
- Host a quiz night with bookish trivia, literary prizes and an entry donation.
- Organise a bake sale and sell treats with a book-themed twist. Whether it’s a marmalade cake worthy of Paddington Bear or classic French chocolate truffles from Chocolat.
- You could run a charity auction or raffle and donate signed books or ask local businesses to contribute prizes.
- Challenge yourself (or your school or office) to a sponsored readathon. Read a set number of books and ask for sponsorship.
No idea is too big or too small. Whatever you’re passionate about could help us to change lives. We are incredibly grateful for all your support.
