Wilbur Smith: East of Eden by John Steinbeck
Our book this month has been chosen by author Wilbur Smith.
His official pick is John Steinbeck’s East of Eden. However, (and we know asking for just one book is tricky) he also wanted to recommend King Solomon’s Mines by H. Rider Haggard, for something which reaches further back in time.
The best selling author, Wilbur Smith, was born in Northern Rhodesia, now Zambia. In his website bio he tells how his father taught him to shoot and his mother taught him to love books.
His most recent book is War Cry (2017).
We’ve been lucky to be generously supported over the years by the Wilbur and Niso Smith foundation.
The foundation does some wonderful work around the world. Established in September 2015, the Foundation is a charitable organisation dedicated to empowering young writers and promoting literacy. It was started by author Wilbur Smith with his wife Niso. There is plenty more information on the Foundation’s website.
Thanks to the Wilbur & Niso Smith Foundation and Wilbur’s agency Tibor Jones, we have been able to send out many copies of Wilbur Smith’s books to Prison Reading Groups and other projects around the country. Find out about these projects here.
We are very grateful for Wilbur’s choice of book(s) for our Book of the Month.
