World Book Day 2022
Thursday 3rd March 2022 marks 25 years of World Book Day and at Give a Book we’re celebrating in the only way we know how: Giving Books!
World Book Day has been changing lives for 25 years through a love of books and shared reading and we couldn’t agree more that
“Reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s future success”!
That’s why, thanks to our very generous friends at Barrington Stoke, we’re giving away Whole Class copies of ‘Clare and her Captain‘ by Michael Morpugo, and ‘Gawain Greytail & the Terrible Tab‘ by Cornelia Funke! Head over to Twitter before Monday 7th March, 11.59pm to enter!
We’ve also been running a competition with our Partner Schools, giving them the opportunity to nominate students to receive a very special copy of one of these giant, beautifully illustrated books, generously donated to us by In The Book. Stay tuned to find out who our very deserving winners are!
At Give a Book we strive to get books to where they’re needed most. With our extensive work in prisons, we understand the power of books in helping people connect; something particularly important in an environment where distance and isolation are such huge factors.
Our wonderful Prison Consultant, David Kendall has been working with World Book Day for the last few years, successfully getting THOUSANDS of World Book Day’s £1 books into EVERY prison across the UK!
“After not seeing my children for so long it was hard to know what to talk about on the phone or in letters so we could read some pages together and then read some on our own and talked about it a few days later. Thankyou.”
Books make such a huge difference to peoples’ lives, particularly in prisons, and we can’t thank David Kendall enough for the wonderful work he does, not only on World Book Day, but throughout the year with Prison Reading Groups and our Making It Up project.
You can find out about all of our projects in prisons, schools, and across the UK where books are needed most, on our project pages.
And there are lots of ideas for ways to get involved in World Book Day, here.
