Doorstep Library Spring Fair

Doorstep Library is a charity that works with volunteers to bring the magic of reading into the homes of families living in disadvantaged areas of London. We’ve been supporting Doorstep Library since 2014 and most recently supplied books for their Community Spring Fair in Hammersmith. We asked them to tell us more about the event…

Books from Give a Book

The Bayonne Community Champions Spring Fair is an annual event organised to bring together local families and community organisations. It was a fun filled and lively afternoon of Easter Egg hunts, dancing competitions, crafting activities and Doorstep Library’s reading corner and free book give away.

Events like the spring fair are a fantastic way for our volunteers to share their love of reading and books outside of our usual sessions and to raise awareness of our organisation in the local community.

Sometimes, at these events we see first-hand the difference even one book can make in the lives of the families we meet.

Thanks to Give a Book one of the parents who came over to choose books for her children was overjoyed when she noticed a book that she had wanted to buy for her son but couldn’t afford as it was too expensive. Our book stall was very popular and often busy with children and parents exploring what they could find to read!

Happy readerOver 70 children took up the offer of a free book from our give away stall. We also provided a quiet reading haven outside, away from the hustle and bustle of the event, where the children were able to read their new books, and share stories with their parents and Doorstep Library volunteers.

Once again I’d like to extend our gratitude for your book donation which further supports our mission to encourage families to develop a love of reading.

Thanks to Doorstep Library for this blog. Find out more about their valuable work here.
