Reach Out Mentoring

We’re delighted  to be able to give books to the children in the Reach Out Mentoring programme. ReachOut is a mentoring charity working with children in disadvantaged communities to raise aspirations and help them grow in character and competence. ReachOut operates in London and Manchester and aims to improve self-confidence and develop numeracy, literacy, communication and memory skills whilst reinforcing their core values of fairness, self-control, good judgement and staying power.  The Academy Project in London currently works with 180 young people aged between 11 and 16 who live or go to school in the London Borough of Hackney. Many of the children have never been to the library and many have never owned a book.

The person who contacted us had previously worked at Springboard for Children and saw first hand the impact the books GAB donated had on the young people there. She described “the lovely task of sending off a wonderful book order and presenting the young people with the books as Christmas presents.”  Thanks to GAB supporters, Reach Out will now award the young people who have 100% attendance  with a book to bring to their projects to read with their mentor.
