Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie: Our Sister Killjoy

This month, we’re delighted to have a book recommendation from novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

“Our Sister Killjoy by Ama Ata Aidoo. I read it years ago and it was the first time I saw a modern African woman in a novel, a woman who even though her life was set in the 1960s, was familiar to me. And I love Aidoo’s sly wit and her wisdom.”

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is the author of the novels Purple Hibiscus, Half of a Yellow Sun, and Americanah, as well as the story collection The Thing Around Your Neck. Her 2012 talk We Should All Be Feminists has started a worldwide conversation about feminism, and was published as a book in 2014. Her most recent book, Dear Ijeawele, or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions, was published in March 2017.

Thank you to Chimamanda for this wonderful book choice to start 2019!
