In 2013 we sent 76 books to Springboard in Peckham for use by children with reading difficulties in various branches. We have also provided support for them to buy hundreds more books for use at their centres.
Springboard is a charity providing one-to-one support to improve reading and writing for children who are in danger of being left behind in the education system.
A Springboard worker said:
‘I work for the charity Springboard for Children who deliver one on one literacy sessions to children who struggle with reading and writing. I have recently heard about your project and think it is a fantastic idea! I work with children everyday who love reading but do not have any books at home. Springboard for Children work in over 15 primary schools in London and Manchester and have recently made the transition into secondary schools.’
‘The books you have enabled us to purchase have helped our tutors and volunteers develop the children’s love of reading as well as support the process of teaching reading skills. In the last academic year we worked with over 400 children.’
